All Laurel did was bend over and it had been enough to cause his left eye to fall out yet again, hitting the wooden floor with a glassy 'plink' before rolling off to God-knows-where.
He really did need to get that fixed…
There was no point chasing in vain after it. The doll was eager to recover it and he may have had the pressing need to tidy up before the Master’s guests arrived, but all that Maude could do was stand there helplessly and watch with his one decent optic the glass eyeball’s escape attempt as it lost its momentum and ground to a halt under a cabinet. He stuck a gloved finger quite unsettlingly into his eye-socket and right into his hollowed skull, and after a good poke around simply to eliminate any dust that might have collected there, let out a grating, childish laugh in amusement.
Mechanically stiff and slightly slower than usual, he knelt before the cabinet his eyeball had rolled beneath and peered under it.
"Where have you rolled off to this time?"
With only one eye and the darkness hardly helping him it would seem that recovering his lost item was going to take some time, and without even thinking he soon found himself uttering a favourite tune of his as he groped around as to find it.
